When Tarthang Tulku began working intensively with Westerners in the early 1970s, he discovered that many of them struggled with the stillness of meditation and seemed disconnected from the vital energies of their own bodies. To develop a structured way to help these students gain a foundation of ease and relaxation, he drew upon his own background, designing exercises and methods of self-massage based on training he receved as a young lama in Tibet. The result is Kum Nye or 'inner massage of body and mind'.

One of the most beloved and successful of the new approaches and systems introduced by Tarthang Tulku, Kum Nye has students, teachers and practitioners around the world.
