“By working on ourselves, by coming to know ourselves better, and then by sharing our growing strength with others, we create a base of support that transforms the quality of our lives and contributes to the well-being of those around us” (The Gift of Work, p. 79).

“It makes no difference who puts these ideas forward; the important thing is the value that comes from putting the ideas into practice, in work and in the rest of life” (The Gift of Work, p. 13).

For those new to the material, please enjoy this simple exercise for “Releasing Tension”:

In today’s fast-paced work environment, finding time for self-care may seem challenging. However, taking just ten to fifteen minutes to recenter yourself can have a profound impact on your well-being and productivity. Find a quiet space, even if it's not perfect, and permit yourself this time to realign your focus. If ten minutes feels too long, start with a shorter time that feels manageable. Set a timer to keep track and allow yourself to let go of workplace tension and embrace relaxation.

Once you've found your space, close your eyes, take slow, gentle breaths, and focus on the sensations in your body. Acknowledge work-related thoughts, but gently push them aside and concentrate on your breath and body. When your time is up, ease back into work, maintaining the calm breath you cultivated. Let your body and mind work together in harmony, and be mindful of the impact of your words on others throughout the day.

Remember, this practice takes time to nurture, so be patient with yourself. The first step is to try it out and discover more about yourself and your workplace in the process.
